Over watch: The Last Bastion

"The Last Bastion," an animated short film from Overwatch, tells the origin story of the character Bastion. As one of the earliest Overwatch players, choosing this short film as my graduation project for Beijing Comtenperary Music Academy scoring program has quite a bit of sentimental value for me.

I think the highlight of this short film lies in its well-developed story arc. It covers Bastion's awakening, exploration of the forest, realization of its war mission, and ultimately, its choice to embrace peace, influenced by a small bird. Within a 5.5-minute duration, the film showcases several distinct scenes, providing a rich visual canvas for musical creativity. My initial goal was multifaceted, with the primary aim to use music to evoke specific emotions for different scenes, complement the film's visual language at crucial moments to enhance the emotional impact, and create stark contrasts in music during scene transitions. These objectives introduced several challenging constraints to the creative process.
