Bass Cover

1. Crush bilibili
This is a cover of Polyphia's "Crush" that I did with one of my best friends, ALiao, back when I was still in university. In this video, I played the bass, which is the instrument I'm most familiar with. At that time, I really liked Polyphia's avant-garde sound design and dazzling playing techniques. The filming, editing, and audio recording of this video were all done by myself (although at that time I didn't have much of an idea about mixing).
2. Diamond Dust - ayumu bilibili
This is a "duet" for bass and echo effect, created by a highly admired young Japanese bassist, Ayumu. In my experience playing bass, I've mostly been part of a band, where the instrument often goes unnoticed. However, I've been trying to practice solo pieces for bass. Unlike jazz and funk music, where bass attracts attention through rhythmic grooves, I'm more drawn to the idea of using unique playing techniques and effects to produce sounds beyond the usual range of the bass (such as the slap technique and massive reverb and echo used in this piece).
3. The Awakening - Les Claypool bilibili
Finally, this piece is more like traditional Funk Bass (though it might have been considered avant-garde in the last decade?). I really love the quirky style of the master, Les Claypool. This piece is like the type I've been longing to play since the day I first picked up this instrument, hoping that one day I'd have the skill to perform it.
